Dan was an active civic and Gretna community leader for more than 30 years. Dan owned Washburn Insurance and was a founding member of the Gretna Business Association, now the Gretna Area Chamber of Commerce. He was an instrumental early volunteer for the Gretna Days committee, now the Gretna Days Foundation, helping with long standing events like the Optimist picnic, Sunday picnic, and the parade.
Over the years Dan was also active with the City Planning Comission, the Optimist Club, and the Boy Scouts. Dan supported the Arts through the band, one-act, and Gretna Booster Club.
After he retired from the insurance business he kept active and involved with the community through a new business, One More Bite BBQ. As a chef he could often be found catering and serving for nonprofit fundraisers at his time and cost.
Dan has spent his life modeling Gretna Citizenship through activities that met the needs of a growing community. He has dedicated thousands of hours to making our city the Great Life. We are proud to make him 2019 Gretna Citizen of the Year!
Join us in celebrating a lifetime of Dan's dedication and service to the #GretnaLife on Friday, July 26th at 6pm. The ceremony will be at Peterson Park during the Gretna Days Optimist Picnic.
